Just a 15-minute drive from Beechwood senior living community, Waterford is home to the Northeast’s largest annual tugboat festival. Each September, the three-day festival attracts as many as 30,000 visitors to the village’s waterfront. In addition to the tugboats on display, Beechwood’s seniors enjoy the many arts & crafts vendors, farmer’s market, games, music and story-telling.
Located just across the Hudson River from Beechwood senior living community, Watervliet is a popular spot for Revolutionary War history buffs. Not only was it the first township established in Albany County after the war, but the Watervliet Arsenal actually supplied munitions for the War of 1812. It is the oldest Federal arsenal in the country, and the only manufacturing facility for large caliber cannon, earning the town its nickname, the “Arsenal City”.
With not one, but two rivers – the Walloomsac and the Hoosic – Hoosick Falls offers picture-perfect picnicking and some really great trout fishing. In addition, the village of Hoosick Falls has retained much of its Victorian charm, and Beechwood’s seniors have been known to frequent its antique shops and two auction houses. In the summer, the community band concerts at Wood’s Park are yet another big draw.
Known for its majestic waterfalls, Cohoes is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Located at the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, Cohoes has acres of parks and miles of trails for walking and bike riding. The Mohawk-Hudson Trail has access points throughout the city, and Peebles Island, located north of Van Schaick Island, offers fishing, hiking and snowshoeing, as well as picnic areas and pavilions, a museum and a visitor center.
Located in the town of East Greenbush, Wynantskill is a popular suburb of Troy. In fact, some of our residents’ families live in the town, and can attest to how easy it is to visit their loved ones here at Beechwood. Wynantskill has a Hannaford Supermarket, several banks and restaurants, a craft beverage store, several convenience stores and a bowling alley.
